Book Description

GenAI is fundamentally changing the world of software development like nothing since the internet. Vibe Coding is a first-of-its-kind, groundbreaking book that shows developers how to embrace this new frontier.

Science fiction is now reality. Programmers no longer need to toil over code and syntax. They can now describe what they want and watch it materialize instantly. Welcome to the future—Vibe Coding.

In this groundbreaking book, industry veterans Steve Yegge (Google, Amazon, Sourcegraph) and WSJ bestselling author Gene Kim (The Phoenix Project and The DevOps Handbook) reveal how vibe coding is transforming software development as we know it. By leveraging the power of AI assistance—where intent and flow matter more than syntax—developers can achieve unprecedented levels of productivity, creativity, and joy.

Drawing from decades of combined experience in software engineering and developer productivity, Yegge and Kim demonstrate how Vibe Coding enables developers to:

  • Transform complex programming challenges into fluid conversations with GenAI.
  • Build more ambitious projects faster while maintaining code quality you can be proud of.
  • Achieve incredible things yourself that otherwise would require a team.
  • Master the art of co-creating with your AI companion.
  • Break free from traditional programming constraints such as syntax and setup.
  • Build confidently in multiple programming languages and frameworks you've never used before.

But this isn't just about coding faster—it's about fundamentally changing how we approach software development. The authors share practical strategies for implementing GenAI-powered development in real-world scenarios, from small projects to enterprise-scale applications, while maintaining the engineering excellence that modern systems demand.

Whether you're a seasoned developer looking to stay ahead of the AI revolution, a technical leader guiding your team through this transformation, a former coder returning after a break, or someone just starting their career, this handbook provides the roadmap you need to thrive in the new era of software development.

Don't get left behind in the biggest transformation our industry has seen since the internet revolution. Learn how to harness the power of vibe coding and unlock your full potential as a developer.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book and the many stories and anecdotes deeply resonated with me since it precisely reflects much of what I experienced myself doing full AI-assisted coding for the past 2+ years. Everything, the good, the bad, and the ugly…Most of all, you are spot on that vibe coding is addictive; once you have experienced your first dopamine hit, you have no choice but to keep going! Congrats on this incredible book — in my opinion, this can become a classic like Steve McConnell's Code Complete." -- Dr. Erik Meijer

“What a great book! It inspired me to get into vibe coding, and now I can’t stop! I'm on the third version of my fourth app, and having so much fun… I did a presentation to thousands of people where I showed off my app and the vibe coding process. I used your kitchen metaphor and it was a huge hit.” -- John Rauser, Senior Director of Engineering, Cisco Security

“This book will be required reading across the Hg portfolio. It sets up many of the organisational and leadership topics I now spend a majority of my time discussing with CTOs and investment teams.”

-- Stuart Pearce, Portfolio CTO, Hg

"I loved the book’s construct of FAAFO — faster, ambitious, autonomous, fun, and optionality. FAAFO for an individual is terrific. FAAFO for an organization is profound. This is one of the aspects that will set this book apart from all the other 'how to' books and tutorials that will inevitably hit the market.” -- Jeff Gallimore, Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, Co-Founder at Excella

“I loved all your disaster stories and what you learned along the way, and how we can mitigate those risks. This book is a wonderful contribution to the emerging literature around agentic coding."

-- Elisabeth Hendrickson, Author of Explore It!

"I'm blown away by the depth and breadth of insights in this book. Prepare to experience a constant and urgent tug to try these vibe coding techniques yourself. Every chapter is seasoned with fun and relatable examples. If you are a developer, engineer, or product leader, this book is for you! It will equip you with insight, inspiration, and instruction to level up your game and prepare you for the human amplifying future of AI coding and collaboration. -- Jason Cox, Executive Director, SRE and Global Platforms
