Book Description

Angular is an open-source, front-end framework used to build web applications using TypeScript. Angular is a component-based framework, which means you build apps by developing and composing reusable components. This framework has all the built-in features needed to develop complex, feature-rich web apps. Written by an Angular specialist working with some of the top companies in the Netherlands, this book teaches you how to harness the full potential of the Angular framework.

You’ll explore different front-end architecture designs and set up a scalable environment for Angular applications and libraries using Nx, before taking a deep dive into the framework’s newest and most powerful features. Next, you’ll learn to manipulate the Document Object Model (DOM) with Angular directives, pipes, and animations, and build reusable components like a pro. The book spotlights best practices and flags potential pitfalls at every step of the way. You’ll also learn design patterns that fit well when using the Angular framework, reactive programming with RxJS and Angular signals, and how to manage application states effectively. The book teaches you about accessibility, testing, and optimizing your app for deployment.

By the end of this book, you’ll be able to use Angular effectively to build enterprise-ready, scalable front-end applications.

What you will learn

  • Create Nx monorepos ready to handle hundreds of Angular applications
  • Reduce complexity in Angular with the standalone API, inject function, control flow, and Signals
  • Effectively manage application state using Signals, RxJS, and NgRx
  • Build dynamic components with projection, TemplateRef, and defer blocks
  • Perform end-to-end and unit testing in Angular with Cypress and Jest
  • Optimize Angular performance, prevent bad practices, and automate deployments

Who this book is for

If you are a front-end engineer ready to level up your Angular skills, then this book is for you. This book will help you learn how to build applications of any scale by utilizing the powerful features of the Angular framework. Basic knowledge of the Angular framework will enable you to grasp the concepts explained in this book, including the newest Angular features such as standalone components, Signals, control flow, front-end architecture, building Angular monorepo applications using Nx, reactive programming with RxJS, and managing application state with NgRx.

Review

“This book takes a thoughtful, step-by-step approach that makes it a great fit for both intermediate and advanced Angular developers. It touches on a broad spectrum of topics, from setting up a scalable workspace with Nx to diving deep into reactive programming and managing application state. What’s especially helpful is how it guides you through testing, deployment, and getting your app ready for production—making sure you can put everything you learn into practice.

In short, this book is a solid resource for any Angular developer looking to sharpen their skills and build applications that are both scalable and maintainable.”

Daniel Glejzner, Angular Architect, Microsoft MVP, Top Web Development Voice

“This book goes far beyond the fundamentals and covers advanced topics, patterns, and tools comprehensively, such that it gives the reader a clear picture of what Enterprise Angular/Effective Angular can look like. From patterns, declarative coding, monorepos, and module boundaries, all the way to effective testing — this book gives you an insight into all topics you might want to know as an Angular developer.

My favorite chapter is Scalable Front-End Architecture for Angular Applications.”

Stefan Haas, Microsoft MVP, Senior Frontend Developer at Blockpit AG

“This book covers many tricks and topics that make it a great read for those who have been using Angular for a while.

The chapters about the importance of designing frontend architectures are very interesting, giving space also to NX and the different architecture and design patterns. There’s more interesting stuff and several examples of the creation of dynamic components, the usage of ngComponentOutlet, and ngTemplate. It concludes with some really insightful chapters focused on performance, security, testing, localization, and deployment.

To conclude, I would say that the book provides insights beyond the basics and offers useful technical tips and advice.”

Fabio Biondi, Google Expert in Angular, Frontend Trainer

“Effective Angular is not just a theoretical guide; it equips developers with practical tools and techniques that can be applied directly to their projects.

Chapters 7 and 8 are worth the price of the book alone. Chapter 7 explores RxJS and Signal in-depth, highlighting their significance in reactive programming within modern Angular applications. It’s incredibly valuable for readers to learn how to choose the right techniques to handle both asynchronous stream events and synchronous actions effectively. Chapter 8 is equally impressive. It serves as a comprehensive guide to implementing state management in Angular applications and outlines essential strategies for migrating to third-party libraries, which is crucial for scaling enterprise applications successfully.

I highly recommend this book to anyone eager to enhance their Angular skills and build robust applications.”

Connie Leung, Google Developer Expert at Angular
