About the Author
She is also the Director of Blockchain ThinkLab at the University at Buffalo (UB). In the summer of 2018, she launched a four-course blockchain specialization on the Coursera platform for a worldwide audience. The suite of courses has been ranked number 1 among the best courses on blockchain technology and has enrolled more than 300,000 learners worldwide. She is working on the production of a DeFi series of three courses, with a Spring 2024 launch on the Coursera platform.
Dr. Bina Ramamurthy published a book, Blockchain in Action (November 2020) by Manning Publishers. Blockchain in Action is a comprehensive resource for designing and developing blockchain-based decentralized applications (Dapps).
She has been the principal investigator on four National Science Foundation (NSF) grants and a coinvestigator in six Instructional Innovative Instructional Technology (IITG) Grants from SUNY. She has given numerous invited presentations and workshops in data-intensive, big-data computing, and, recently, blockchain technology. She has been on the program committees of prestigious conferences, including the High-Performance Computing Conference and the Special Interest Group in Computer Science Education (SIGCSE).
Bina Ramamurthy received a BE (Honors) from Guindy Engineering College, Madras, India; an MS in Computer Science from Wichita State University, Kansas; and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University at Buffalo.
Mr Kumar Madurai had over 35 years of IT experience in Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Manufacturing environments. His expertise was in designing, developing, and implementing ontology-based solutions using advanced semantic technologies for predictive quality assurance and knowledge engineering by linking enterprise data from multiple structured and unstructured data sources. He founded a company Novosem that focused on these ontological pursuits. He was hired in 2009 by CTG as a Principal Consultant and a Solutions Manager, responsible for advising clients on strategic planning and selection of technology and infrastructure and for developing and implementing custom solutions to solve today's complex business problems. As Data Scientist for the Medical Informatics Products team, he used exploratory data analysis and applied machine learning algorithms for population health predictive analytics using claims and clinical data. At the time of his passing, he was working on his PhD at University at Buffalo, with the focus of his research on the use of blockchain in healthcare. He spent 25 years at Fisher-Price/Mattel, serving as Director of Technology group leading applications, infrastructure, and technical teams.
