Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Drath is professor for Mechatronic Systems Engineering at the
University of Applied Sciences Pforzheim. He is one of the architects of CAEX and
AutomationML and a board member of the AutomationML Association. He studied
automation technology at Ilmenau University of Technology from 1990-1995 and received
his doctorate in 1999. After a research stay in Japan,he worked at the ABB
Research Center Germany as a scientist,group leader,programme manager and senior
principal scientist. His research focuses on the development of innovative methods
for improving automation engineering in an interdisciplinary and heterogeneous
environment.
Rainer Drath is the editor and author of the first AutomationML book in 2010,
author of more than 250 papers/speeches and more than 60 patents. He is the recipient
of several atp best paper awards,the ETFA best paper award 2014 and the recognised
Industrial IT-Research Award 2010. In 2021,he received the Perspective Award
from Pforzheim University.
