Book Description
Number theory could be divided into additive number theory and multiplicative number theory. In this book we raise the so-called additive and multiplicative equation, it is our new creation, and it is the collection and extension of research results by the author in the past decade. They are related with classical number theory problems. The contents consists of 7 chapters, i.e., New Waring Problem, New Fermat Problem, Euler's Conjecture, Representations of Integers as Sums of Squares, Figurate Primes and F-Perfect Numbers, abcd Equation and New Congruent Numbers, Additive and Multiplicative Congruences and Other Topics.
About the Author
Prof. Tianxin Cai received his PhD from Shandong University in 1987. He is now a distinguished professor of mathematics at Zhejiang University as well as a well-known poet, writer, translator and photographer. He has published dozens of books including Mathematical Legends, A Brief History of Mathematics, Mathematics and Arts, Numbers and Roses, The Mathematical Stories, A Modern Introduction to Classical Number Theory, Perfect numbers and Fibonacci Sequences, etc.. His book Mathematical Legends won the National Award of Science and Technology in China in 2018. He has published more than 20 books in foreign languages, among then 7 in English, 2 are books of poems, 3 are monography on number theory and 2 are popularization of mathematics. Cai has published more than 90 research papers on number theory, and some of them are highly innovative, British mathematician and Fields Medalist Alan Baker once praised his work as a "truly original contribution" to the Waring problem. Cai also delivers public lectures on mathematics in English in dozens of famous universities and schools in 6 continents.
